The kidneys  are a vital organ and have many important physiological functions. There are many chronic kidney diseases which contribute to a decrease in the quality of living as well as long term survival. Therefore, research into kidney diseases is critically important in the treatment and prevention of chronic kidney disease.

In developed countries, the prevalence of kidney disease is between 6.5%-10% of the population. Kidney disease patients in America exceed 20,000,000 patients.  Among this number of patients, upwards of 25% are new cases, that go untreated.

There is no exact survey data of kidney disease in China up until now. The preliminary survey shows that the prevalence of kidney disease is about 8%-9% of the population over 40 years old. It is estimated that the number of chronic kidney disease patients at different stages of the illness will be more than 100 million people.

The awareness, treatment and prevention of kidney disease in China is problematic.  We can categorize the problems with chronic kidney disease in China into two main categories: the three highs and three lows- that is, high morbidity, high incidence rate of cardiovascular disease and high mortality, and low awareness of chronic kidney disease, low prevention and treatment and low awareness of cardiovascular disease.

There are new modalities developed for the treatment of many illnesses including kidney disease including Micro- Chinese Medicine Osmosis , Stem Cell Transplant Technology and Immunoadsorbent therapies.  Micro-chinese medicine osmosis is a development from tradition chinese medicine and it has  shown an excellent functional outcome. We are developing techniques to modernize the traditional Chinese herb culture, in an effort to treat some of these chronic, prevalent diseases in China, including chronic kidney disease.
