Hearing people say that there are drugs in drinking water is somewhat frightening.  While it make you feel somewhat better to know that they are not illegal drugs but rather prescription pharmaceuticals, the truth is that it is still a dangerous situation.  There are a vast number of drugs that have turned up in city water supplies.

There are a number of drugs found in drinking water all over the country.  From sedatives to mood stabilizers, there are all sorts of things in water supplies these days that simply should not be there.  The two most alarming drugs are hormones and antibiotics.

There is a large amount of sex hormones in drinking water supplies.  While these are not in the amounts typical of standard medical doses, there are amounts enough to leave low levels of things such as estrogen and progesterone in the blood levels of those who drink it.  This is because when women take birth control pills, 85 percent of the hormones pass through the body unused.  While not life threatening, there are questions as to whether this may be one of the main causes of early puberty in children.

Antibiotics are found in almost all drinking water supplies.  Like hormones, these are in levels far lower than medical doses, but once again, it is cause for concern.  By constantly having low levels of antibiotics in our bodies, we slowly build a tolerance and resistance to antibiotics.  This is one of the main causes of MRSA, a form of staph that is resistant to antibiotics that can actually be fatal in children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.

You may wonder how we end up with drugs in drinking water.  The answer is actually from human waste.  While water treatment plants treat waste before turning it into potable water, the systems in place are simply not set up to treat and remove pharmaceutical drugs.  This creates a need for us to do so at home, using a water filtration system.

Not all water filtration systems are the same, however, and not all remove the drugs found in drinking water.  To safely remove drugs from your water, as well as other chemicals and toxins, without removing valuable trace minerals, you need a multi-stage water filtration system.  These units are not only extremely effective and healthy, but they are also the cheapest group of filtration systems to purchase and maintain.

Many people believe that if they have a filtered pitcher, that they are drinking clean water.  While this water is free of lead and sediment, these filters do nothing for drugs and toxic chemicals.  By looking at the price per gallon of water you get with each filter, these systems are also by far the most expensive and inefficient to maintain in the end.

I urge you to look into a multi-stage unit for the removal of drugs in drinking water.  The health benefits are amazing, and it is something that we can no longer afford not to do.  The simple purchase of one of these systems can go a long way toward protecting your family, and that is something you can never put a price on.
