It is better to take the child suspected with hay fever to the General Practitioner rather than buying any over the counter medicines.
Antihistamine syrups are used to treat children. Sometimes nasal spray is used.
Some children respond well to homeopathic treatment.
Most General Practitioners will allow the child to take anti-histamines after diagnosis. Prescription will be repeated, checking at regular intervals that the drug is still working.
If your child is already on some medication please inform your doctor or pharmacist about it.
Eye drops may be prescribed for older children.
Adults may sometimes have to take an injection of a steroid at the onset of hay fever season.
But these steroids can have dangerous side effects and so some General Practitioner’s may have reservations about using steroids.
