Kidney infections sometimes do not show any sign or kidney infection symptoms in patients.  Generally, patients with kidney  bacterial infections will complain of pain around the kidney area, which is located near the spine and below the ribs. It is also tender when pressed. Kidney infections  can sometimes be tricky to diagnose as it is similar to patients who have chronic back pain. The symptoms of kidney infection may be different and vary from one person to the other. Therefore it is always prudent to consider the possibility that the patients' symptoms may be related to a kidney infection.

  The following are the some of the common kidney infection symptoms:

  1. Back pain especially around the abdomen

  2. Back lower pain and also around abdominal area

  3. Feel pain when urinating

  4. Increased urinating frequency compared to normal day, except with little urine

  5. Urine may contain blood and was in darker color or murky.

  6. Fever

  7. Smelly urine

  8. Nausea and vomiting

  9. Fatigue

  10. Diarrhea

  People who suffer from recurrent kidney infections may develop chronic pyelonephritis. It is advisable to consult doctor as soon as possible if you have any signs or symptoms of kidney infections.

  A person with kidney infection should drink a lot of water to stay hydrated. Taking in at least 2 liters of water each day so that it may help the person stay hydrated and create enough urine to flush the kidney and bladder from further bacterial infection.

  Antibiotics will cure kidney infections most of the time, but in certain circumstances the person may be admitted to hospital for intravenous antibiotics if the physician believes that kidney infection is not adequately treated.

  A person who suffers from kidney infections will normally make a full recovery. Unfortunately, in some other cases, the infection in the kidneys could produce an abscess.  The physician will then need to perform surgery to drain the purulent abscess from the kidney.  Sometimes when the kidney infection is not treated immediately or there is an abscess, bacteria will spread into the bloodstream causing bacteremia or urosepsis.  This is a serious medical condition and may lead to death if not treated emergently.

  A repeated kidney infection will damage and scar kidney permanently.

  What are some of the methods to help prevent Kidney Infections?

  1 Drink plenty of fluid everyday

  2 Urinate when needed and do not hold it for a long period of time

  3 Flush your bladder after sexual intercourse

  4 Pay attention to personal hygiene - especially for females.
