Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by the microscopic mite Sarcoptes scabei. It is common all over the world, and it affects people of all races and social classes. Scabies spreads quickly in crowded conditions where there is frequent skin-to-skin contact between people. Hospitals, child-care centers and nursing homes are examples. Scabies can easily infect sex partners and other household members. Sharing clothes, towels, and bedding can also spread scabies. You cannot get scabies from a pet. Pets get a different mite infection called mange.

Scabies is a skin infection that is caused by mites. These scabies mites burrow just under the surface of your skin and lay their eggs. As a result, your skin will feel very itchy and you will also have red bumps or blisters on the skin. These are some of the most common scabies symptoms. Scabies is quite a common disease, especially in places like living facilities that are shared by many people. Scabies can also be found in hospitals, dormitories and even nursing homes.

In order to get scabies you only need to have skin contact with a person that already has scabies. However, a short contact with a person infected with scabies is not sufficient for you to get scabies as well. But if you live in the same house with a person who has scabies and have sexual contact with such a person, scabies can be contacted. Another way of infection with scabies is by clothes, bedding or even towels. Animals also have scabies, but you can not get it from them, asscabies in animals is caused by a different scabies mite than in humans. This particular type of scabies mite is not able to live on the body of a human for more than a couple of days.
