How do I edit?

So, you want to help out and add some content to our site? Great! We ask you follow these 3 golden rules:

  • Your information must be accurate
  • You information must be original or provide unique insight
  • You must include sources cited in the original article

The Basics

Healthocrates is an editable web site powered by a free software called Php Wiki. Php Wiki allows anyone (that is a member) to edit or create any page on the site. You just need to decide where to start.

  • Create a new article - when you are ready to create a new article click here.
  • Edit an existing article - Go to any content page and click where you see the red arrow below:

When creating a new article you will have to fill out the following information:

Below this you will see the box where you should enter the text from the article. It should look like this:

The text of the page will be displayed inside an editable textarea. When you're satisfied with your changes, press the "Submit" button. Your changes will appear after they have been reviewed by Healthocrates staff.  Our staff is constantly reviewing articles around the clock.  Changes are often visible only a few hours after you make your submission.

Once you save the page, your change will be noted in Healthocrates Recent Changes. We save the original submission of any new article, that way we can always roll back the history of any article. . Any revisions can be rolled back and diff'ed against other versions of a page. That's the beauty of Healthocrates: anything can be done and undone and corrected and added to realtime, and there are full logs of all of the activity, time-stamped and available for everyone to view and review. Don't think your change will go unnoticed, because it won't. Your edit to an existing article is written in blue font- that way users know it is an edit to the origial. The place is crawliing with readers and writers and your change will be swept away immediately if it's not correct or legit.

Be bold but not reckless

Healthocrates advice to editors is be bold but don't be reckless. (Pretty good life advice, as well.) Find something that can be improved, either in content, grammar or formatting, then fix it. Worried about breaking Healthocrates? Don't be: it can always be fixed or improved later. So go ahead, edit an article and help make Healthocrates the best source of medical information on the Internet!
